What are you doing to combat the high cost of oil/energy?

I keep an energy bank where I save energy.
Nothing. I do, however, try to drive my Corvette as much as possible to offset any hippies driving Priuses or other hybrids.
If you run off of propane consider purchasing a wood burning furnace, My father in law runs off of propane and it costs nearly 2400 a tank, and takes 2 tanks per winter for JUST heat. His wood burning heater cost him 10k, however if you do the math wood is a LOT LOT LOT cheaper than propane, and is easier to come by (at least in indiana)
I’m not driving as much as possible. And I use the fan as much as I can which is difficult because humidity sucks.
I try to keep the AC set at 70-73 degrees, and not change the temp., as I have heard several adjustments tend to make the bill go up. I also waite until I have a load of laundry or dishes before running the dishwasher or washing machine. (To keep the clutter out of the sink, I just put the dishes in the dish washer and waite to run it later on)
Nothing different… but then , I have always been somewhat frugal…..
Except of course when it comes to my 10mpg Hotrod…..
Nothing. I am wealthy and have no children. I figure to rape this land for all its worth and let the ignorant suffer for it later. Kidding, sort of. I am wealthy and I don’t have children. And I don’t care about cost. I care about taking and not giving back. I care about the fact that mankind rarely factors in the nature part of the equation.
Some of the things I have been doing:
- My boyfriend and I try to keep the AC off and use fans in our house, and open all the windows in the evening to cool the place down. (we are not home all day anyway so we don’t need the AC running). Only when it is REALLY hot do we turn the AC on.
- We try to carpool, since we work at the same place, and I usually keep all my errands to one or 2 days so I’m not driving as much. I try to get as much done in one shot as possible. I pack a lunch to save money and also so I’m driving even less.
- Unplug all your appliances when you’re not using them! You can really cut down your electricity costs by doing this. It is a pain to have to plug and unplug things all the time, but it really helps.
- Make sure your tires are inflated as much as possible, this gets you better gas mileage.
- Make sure there isn’t excess stuff in your car, especially things that are heavy, this can also take a toll on your gas mileage
I installed a gadget onto my fuel line (magnet) that matches the fuel molecule to the air molecule.
Went from 18.5 miles per gallon to 20.5 milles per gallon so I guess the thing actually works!
