About 30 months ago I bought a top of the line radiant top free standing range for our home. Shortly after the warranty expired the oven ‘ran wild’. It could not be shut down at all and was not even on the clean cycle so it wasn’t locked. If we had not been home it would have gotten so hot that our home would have burned. The repairman told me that this ‘happened all the time’ and ‘you can expect this with today’s appliances’ as he charged me $235 ( $185 to Frigidaire for the part and $50 for the service call). Now with this replacement unit about 5 months ago the outer burner of the large and small unit setup stopped working. The small one works but the outer burners won’t come on when the large burner part of the control is used. Last week the door handle for the oven just fell off. I fixed this myself. Shortly after buying the range I also bought a standup refrigerator of the same brand. The bottom most shelf just fell off when loaded (not overloaded). After — please see additional
that the part was not designed correctly. It could not work! It is designed to be a spring fir but the maker of this part made the relief for the plastic mold go the wrong way– which weakened the part. I have designed plastic parts for manufacture, so I know this. Has anyone else had problems with this brand? I just will not buy this brand for our new house. We will use SubZero or xomething but not these.

D_Icon asked:

I have a central air conditioner and it appears to have a natural gas line connected to it. Does this make any sense? Why would a air conditioner need a gas line? I have a separate natural gas furnace and as far as I know, the air conditioner has nothing to do with heating the home. The gas bill seems to suggest a large gas usage during the summer months as well even though the only other appliance in the home that use natural gas is the water heater. Any suggestions?

Lord Brett Sinclair asked:

I’m returning to the UK soon after having spent the last 20+ years abroad. I have a lot of 110v kitchen appliances I would like to take home with me. Is there any way for an electrician to run a 110v line to my kitchen, or will I be stuck with 220v?

brownie asked:

Basically, i just want to know how much stainless steel appliances increase the value of a home.

I already have a nice kitchen (backsplash, granite tile countertop, and wood laminate floors), but I would like to upgrade the appliances. Is it a good idea financially? Would i get my money back when i try to resell?? Stainless steel appliances are expensive. Is it worth it?

I live in a 12 year old house. All of the kitchen appliances are original to the home, so I may have to replace several appliances during my time living here. I know it is important to the value of the home to have matching appliances, so if i upgrade the fridge, I would update the other appliances as well, when they need to be replaced.

(extra info: This is my first home. I’ve lived here for a little over a year and I will probably live here for another 5 years, maybe more…)
